Hiya folks.
I need a lil bit of advice if possible. I have applied for the SSMG (sent it off last week) but I keep thinking im not going to get it because I get confused about the child tax credits thing.
I know it says you are eligible as long as your child tax credits are higher than the family element - £548 per year but thats where i get a bit lost.
On my tax credits award the child tax credit section says as follows -
Child elements for children - 1 qualifying child £2303.15
Family elements:
Basic £547.50
Reduction due to income £0.00
Amount for the period £2850.65
The first thing i see is that i get alot more than £548 per year in total but then I see the £547.50 part and im wondering if thats the important figure?? If it is that means I miss out by 50p.
I also should let you all know im a single mum to 1 child and i work 20 hours per week.
Most of you are probably thinking why dont you just wait another week or two to find out properly by letter but im kinda impatient
Thanks in advance for any advice x

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but the figure you get is £2850.65 per year, therefore, you qualify.

"From April 2010 to April 2011 this means a rate of £548 a year or more, or more than £1095 a year if
you have a baby under one. These figures are for a whole year and will be less for partyears.
Your tax credits award notice will include a breakdown of your award. If your Child Tax Credit total is greater than the amounts shown as the family elements you may qualify for a Sure Start Maternity Grant. Note that your tax credit award is based on your previous year’s income. If your income reduces you can ask for your tax credit award to be reviewed."
So, based on the info you have provided. You will qualify.0 -
