Hi all
I have a maxtor 500gb external hard drive linked up to my desktop pc which is now very old and plays up abit. On the external i have all our photos and important stuff plus my Itunes libarary.
We also have a laptop which is a few months old and i was thinking about moving my itunes over to it.
I just disconnected the external hard drive from the old comp upstairs and brought it down to the laptop, plugged in the power and the usb cable, the laptop recognised it but when i open the icon for the drive it saying access denied and also when i click on the properties of the drive it shows it as empty????
Am i doing something wrong? i thought it would just open up and show me what i had stored on there when i connected to laptop.
I took it back up to the old desktop and plugged it back in there and all the files and folders came back up!?!?!?!
Am i doing something wrong? can anyone help me please? im not very good with comp stuff that gets too complicated.
desktop runs wins xp and laptop is wins 7. Does this matter?
Thank you guys!!!

These instructions might me worth ago 1st (from that link^)
Click on the external HDD icon, selected properties, then click on the security tab.
Click on EDIT to change ownership permissions and choose 'Everyone' as the owner.0 -
Once you've sorted that I would recommend installing teracopy: http://www.codesector.com/teracopy.php to copy your files over.0
