Blackpool Illumations

Options
Hi there, Going to Blackpool in a couple of weeks for the illuminations mon to Fri. I reckon the best way to see the lights is to get a tram - am i right ? If we get on halfway between south and central piers will be able to buy a ticktet that lets us stay on all the way to Fleetwood then back through to Stargate then back to where we got on ? there'll be three adults (one pensioner) and one child - is there any special tickets we can buy ? any advice much appreciated. Thanks

I was looking into this myself - you can buy one day travelcards that give unlimited travel on buses and trams - the cost is £6 for an adult - not sure what it is for pensioners or children, or whether a simple return is cheaper.

I don't think the illumoinations go all the way to Fleetwood - I think they start around Cleveleys ?
  • Hi! The Illuminations run from Starr Gate (just south of the Pleasure Beach) to Bispham about 5 miles north.

There are illuminated and historic tram rides available beiginning at North Pier - Adults £5.00, Children £3.00. Trams get really busy and windows get condensation on them!

Best way to see the lights is to walk (IMHO) but it is a long way!!! Certainly get a tram/bus travelcard (remember it allows you travel all day from Pleasure Beach - Fleetwood) and go to Bispham, walk back to Blackpool a little bit as there are big Tableaux at the Bispham end. Trams get very busy though at peak times during the lights and you can wait a long time to get on at some stops as the trams trundle past if they're full.

Thanks for the info. How / where do you get the travel cards and is there different kinds ?
  • Travel Cards:

    1 Day Adult £ 6.00 Child £ 5.50
    3 Day Adult £15.50 Child £13.50
    5 Day Adult £21.70 Child £18.60
    7 Day Adult £23.80 Child £20.70

Buy from Official Travel Offices at MArket Street (next to BHS in town centre) or Rigby Road depot. There are 60 shops with PayPoint that you can buy them at - or you can buy them on the bus/tram. More information on the Blackpool Transport website about which 60 shops sell them!
  • aren`t the trams stopping at the pleasure beach? new tram depot is going to be at Starr gate.

The trams terminate at the Pleasure Beach at the minute, the last bit from there to Starr Gate isn't quite finished. Can't wait til it is!

we used the all day ticket but I noticed that you can go from the PB to Bispham for only £2.30 single so its worth bearing this in mind.
