ADVICE: Trip to Europe in November? (From Scottish airport)

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to go somewhere in Central Europe to meet up with friends in November for around a week (my dates are flexible) and was wondering if any other MSE forum members had any suggestions..?

Ideally I'd fly from Aberdeen, Edinburgh or Glasgow, and the more cost-effective the holiday the better! Staying in a hostel is no problem.

(Unfortunately many of Ryanair's routes seem to be "Summer Only", i.e. until the end of September, although I can't find confirmation of exactly when each route runs on their website...)

Has anyone else taken a cheap break to Europe in November? I'm not worried about sun, temperature, beaches etc, just somewhere interesting and not massively expensive! Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much for reading.

If you do not mind the cold Krakow, Gdansk or Kaunus from Edinburgh, Wroclaw and Riga from Prestwick.
  • You should check out the Flight Checker on his site and just enter your dates, tick the 'I'll go anywhere' and see what comes up. You should be able to do most places on the cheap by staying in Hostels, buying drinks in bottle-shops before going out etc. The suggestions given above are good and cheap as well. Also check out Slovakia (Bratislava, Kosice), Nuremburg, Munich - practically everywhere in Europe (perhaps with the exception of Zurich ;) ) has cheap options.

  • Thanks very much for the suggestions guys!

Bologna looks like it could be interesting... I don't suppose anyone has any tips on finding cheapo accommodation...?

I'm pretty sure some of our group will be looking for private double rooms - Would hostels be our best bet? Or perhaps apartments? I'm guessing November would be a quieter time for accommodation?

    Thanks again!
