My wife and I might buy a small flat in the city we have moved to. My only anxiety is a noisy neighbour either side. Any ideas, re. sussing out the prospective neighbour or old versus new build? many thanks

Im afraid that even if you were to have good neighbours now, this can change overnight. So there is no guarantee in life that you will continue to have good neighbours.
The only thing you can do is talk to the neighbours about the soundproofing and whether there are any problems at this time.
People do say to have the end top floor flat to try to eliminate some of the above.0 -
I'd go for something built no more than about 5 years ago as noise regs ("part e") have been introduced since then to help tackle this problem.0
