Dependant on your driving history (no of accidents, points etc) it may be best to just go through the insurance company. At least that way you wont pay over the odds they'll have the car looked at again.
As far as im aware, you only pay your excess if your getting damaged to your car fixed.0 -

I've never made any claims and never had any points and have 8 years no claims bonus. Maybe I have an unnecessarily low opinion of insurance companies, but I'm under the impression that they'll bend me over a barrel at the slightest opportunity, which is one reason I'd rather not go through the insurers. (I'm with Aviva, I don't know what kind of reputation they have)0 -
Your insurance will pay for her damage without any issues. After accident your insurance requires you to log the incident asap but there is no set rules when comes to days or weeks, even months.
If you don't want to pay for the third party damage simply call your insurance log the incident and they will deal with the third party damage. Most insurance companies will offer the third party repair and hire car. You don't have to pay any excess unless you claim for your own car repair.:: No unapproved links in signatures please - MSE Forum Team ::0 -
Thanks everyone for your replies. I think I've decided what I'm going to do now.
You've all been a great help.
Thanks again.

Always always always go through your insurance company. For a start, if you don't tell them about your accident, and then the other driver makes a claim (and they don't need to have been told who your insurers are - their insurers can find it out) your insurers might cause trouble for you. Also, you're protected from this kind of 'claim inflation' after the fact. You pay a great deal of money to your insurers, and it is down to them to do all the negotiating and donkey work.:T:T:T

Really? I don't want to come in shouting "you're wrong" but I was always under the impression that the excess was "per claim" regardless of who the vehicle being repaired belonged to.
OP this sounds like a mine field, I would call you insurance company and report the incident and they will deal with it. If they believe that the damage is not caused by a low speed impact they will say so but let them (the experts) be the judge.MSE aim: more thanks than posts :j0 -
