Cupcake Display for Engagement party

Hi, great ideas. I have the books on order from the library, including a Peggy Porshen book. I have bought a cheap icing set from Wilko to see how I get on with decorating them. Think the rest of the family may be doing some sampling for the next couple of weeks. Must look at the suggestions of making the home made stands. Money is limited, so don't want to spend the money on expensive displays. May ask a number of friends if they have ones I can borrow.
Also found out today that one of the girls is a 'cupcake queen' so may be racking her brains when she is in next. I'm thinking of doing a few large cupcakes as the centre piece or top of some of the displays and hoping she may have a mould to do that.
It's all a bit daunting though.0 -

this is what the one from The Works looks like
however when making cupcakes for special occasions i find they look more 'wow' if you put them in wrappers, rather than baking them in pretty cases

Not sure if this helps, but Scala piping bags are the best I have used. Really tough, a selection of nozzles and they are cotton outside which is good for gripping and inside is coated in a greasy feeling stuff - not sure what it is, but even after washing it feels really greasy so the icing slides down nicely as you pipe unlike with other cheaper bags.
I got mine a while back, but have seen them in dumelm mill and more recently the argos catalogue. HTH0 -
Hi, I recently made 150 cup cakes for a wedding and quickly learnt that you need a really big piping nozzle to get a good professional swirl and buy the biggest icing bag you can find!! topping up a small one is fiddly and messy. Good luck!Slightly bitter0

I went to my local cake decorting supplies shop when I needed to make approx 100 cupcakes. And I bought a nozzle for £3 and then 2 disposable large piping bags for 75p each.... best money I have ever spent! I did have a little plastic piping thing for a poundshop or supermarket (cant remember which) and it was impossible to use for more than 2 cakes at a time!0

I am off to Ikea tomorrow and while I am there I might have to pick up some of their cake cases and icing set.
Just tried my first lot of cupcakes, not very successful, they all flopped back down the cases and are very heavy. Will try another recipe.0
