Sainsburys 0% on purchases..

Successfully applied for this card with the hope of using it to purchase a new kitchen.

On reading the small print on the credit agreement before sending it off to recieve the card I read the following in relation to the 0% purchase offer.

"You will recieve 0% interest for the first 12 months from account openning on all Sainsburys purchases"

Just double checking that the deal is for Sainsbury purchases only and not available for any other retailer.

Thank you all..

Sounds pretty black and white to me.

What bit of 'Sainsburys only purchases' do you want clarified?

Check with customer services. They admit a mistake on their terms and conditions. The card which gives you Nectar points on purchases only gives 0% on Sainsbury purchases. The one which you need a Nectar card to apply for (and which has been swiped in the last 6 months) gives 0% on all purchases but no Nectar points. The T&C's for the 'universal' one still say 0% on Sainsbury purchases. I took one out recently and checked this with them. They confirmed that 0% applied to all purchases on my particular card type and that they are aware of the error on the T&C's.
You need to be certain of which card you are applying for!

What did you want me to say? It applies to all purchases, just ignore it?

Cheers datostar, I have the Sainsburys card that goes along with the nectar card that has been swiped in the last 6 months, will give CS a ring to confirm, other option would be to buy the kitchen on another card and balance transfer to the Sainsbury card, with the 3% handling fee it would still work out cheaper than a loan as it will be payed back in 12 months.

Should be OK then. I've run up a few hundred on mine at various places so far and the first statement has come through. No interest added.
  • But you may have a standard interest free period anyway. I have 56 days with Halifax.

Well if any interest is applied next time I shall pay it off straight away, bin the card and report the false advertising!
