Can we leave anything behind?

  • I left my buyers paint, tiles, bottle of wine, instruction manuals for cooker etc, takeaway menus & curtains. Checked with them in advance about the curtains, just left the rest.

My sellers left me a bed & a wardrobe (agreed in advance), loads of stuff in the dishwasher (ooops!) & a bottle of fizz.
  • I always thought that part of the fun of moving in is finding out what you had been left, either intentionally or otherwise.

In my first place as a FTB is was great to disover that they's left both sets of wardrobes in the bedrooms - I didn't have any bedroom furniture except 2 beds, so this was a huge plus! They were a spotlessly clean couple anyway, so I was very happy with this. Also all carpets and curtains etc. There was a bottle of wine and a pot plant as well, which was lovely.

In my latest house we were also left a wardrobe in the smallest bedroom, and a few tools and plant post etc. outside. Very happy with all.

I'f have been quite disappointed to move in and find absolutely nothing in a house! Mind you, huge piles of rubbish would not be welcome...

Horses for courses. Personally, I'd not want 2nd hand mugs or glasses, or a kettle left in a house I'd just bought. Same as I'd not sleep in their bed if they left it, but I would be okay staying over at a friend's house, and same that I sleep in hotels where other people have slept in the beds. My own home is different in my opinion and I'd definitely not have a bed from a hotel or a friend in my house.

Maybe it's me who's strange :o but the OP asked for opinions and I gave mine.
