what a horrible person the reciever of this mistaken payment must be if they refuse to pay it back when it is not their money i am shocked at how dishonest some people are.....

1, Push Santander for a full refund of the money. They have admitted their failure to stop the BACS credit. They had two clear working days in which they could have recalled the payment. They should refund the money and attempt to recover it from the recipient themselves; They can make a payment refund request to the recipients bank.
2, Report the recipient to the police as retaining a wrongful bank credit under s24A of the Theft Act. Hopefully you recorded the telephone conversation where she expressed no interest in co-operating? Could be useful.0
