  • Turns out the battery is knackered and therefore inducing a lag on keyboard and usb. Battery life measured in seconds not hours. Have replaced with good battery from my laptop and its back to normal, she ain't keeping it though.

    disable microsoft acpi compliant battery method in device manager, and put the old battery in, you'll lose the battery icon, but it will run ok on mains.

    Yes.
    I'll try closed's suggestion whilst new battery is in transit as I now have the old battery and she has the working set-up. I must say I am most surprised that it is not made more clear that there is a very specific sequence of loading of the proprietory drivers in fact the small print says its IMPERATIVE that they are loaded in the correct manner.
