Since I've heard of dell I wouldn't touch dell. They use cheapest components possible. Build quality of a pc is like build quality of plugging in a light bulb.
How do you "bodge" together a pc?? I'd like to know so I can avoid anything that's been "bodged" in future.

The dell seems expensive for what it is. Refurb means not new -2nd hand.
The amd system would be my choice. An o/c'd i3 530 would be very capable at 4.4ghz. Most of the time quad cores aren't utilised.

I'm pretty sure I don't want the Palicomp, I don't feel confidant of a decent lifespan. And I have more or less decided to get the AMD, even though further online research suggests that DinoPC can be very slow to dispatch and their warranty commitment is questionable. I just think the price is too good to miss! And maybe it will have some resale value because of the processor.
  • Thanks to all of you for your input, I really appreciate it!

The 3 year warranty seems to be something you've factored in.
Dell are very good with their warranties, whereas you don't know if an independent is going to be around in 3 years time.
I think that Dell desktops' quality are fine.

Many components have 2 or 3 year warranties anyway. CPU's have 3 yrs and many h/drives do -often you can check online to see if a part is still covered by going to manf. site and putting in serial no. (use eg. PCWizard to find this)
BE cpu's are very easy to o/c.

streaming normal stuff - iplayer, Youtube, also films for 4/5 hours

That should be perfectly capable of streaming HD already. Look at why it's slow and hot instead of spending money.

Sorry for the late reply. That's good advice but I already promised to give it to a friend. Anyway, like so many, when my heart is set there's no going back!
  • So sorry for the late thanks! In the end I found what I consider (in my untutored opinion) to be an awesome deal!
