Lightweight luggage???

I'm about to go to North America and would like to invest in some VERY lightweight luggage to use as checked baggage. The carry-on is sorted, but apparently American Airline has changed its checked baggage policy. Now I can check only one bag free so I want to get it as full as possible. Can anyone recommend a lightweight bag, please? It can be a total (H + W + L) of 62"/157cm. It can only weigh, when packed, 23Kgs or 50 lbs.

Thanks for any tips or referrals.

I had been looking for the same thing and found sub zero g cases. I couldn't believe how light they are. Matalan are selling sub zero suitcases. They are also guaranteed for 10 years. They have the large size which costs £45 and weights 2.7kg.

Homebase also stock them but cost £49.95 but they have regular 10% off promotions.

    Don't forget Quidco as well.

Yes, the Sub-Zero G have been discussed in previous threads - TJ Hughes & Argos also stock them (or did).
  • Went shopping to a local shop that sells just about everything on friday and noticed that they have ultra light weight suitcases for £29.99, this is for the largest 28" and having seen the matalan ones a few weeks ago I think that they were pretty much identical. My mum is going to Australia in Jan and we are going back to buy some tomorrow.........I know you might not live near the shop but I believe they also have a website - the shop is called XS-Stock and it's in Irvine, North Ayrshire. Hope this helps!:)

Weve got the samsonite cosmolite set, expensive but really light
  • Thanks for all the tips. I'm going to have a look at some of those places right now.
  • I purchased the sub zero cases for this years holiday, the biggest one is about 2.5kg it was fine, we packed them to the weight limit and they were fine, I got mine from Matalan with my student discount card I got an extra 10% off. The cheapest place I have seen them is the original factory shop if you have one near you.
  • Thanks to all who suggested the Sub Zero luggage. I found them online and ordered the 26" one on Monday and it arrived today (Wednesday)! I ordered it in the butt-ugly colour of red marble so I wouldn't have to look through a hundred BLACK cases at the airport, but it's not really too bad. I doubt if there will be another one on the baggage belt.

It appears very sturdy, has two large pockets on the front, more pockets on the inside, handles on both the top and side, and.... drum roll, please... I can pick it up (empty) with ONE FINGER! I'm thrilled with this case. It cost £50 from Bags, Etc.

So thanks again for the suggestions. Now, I'm off to Google for packing tips.

    Hi,

When you say the cheapest place to get them is the factory shop, do you mean the Matalan factory shop or the manufacturer's factory shop? If the latter, who's the manufacturer? Cheers.

Think they mean a company called The Original Factory Shop. They do have a website but don't think you can order on-lone but you should be able to check store locations and find out if one near you.

Sub zero ones are great we bought our first one in 2008 and it has been great and is still in fab condition. Very nice to pull along. You have made a good choice.
