Sky digital.

I am not prepared to pay the ripoff prices for Sky sports (it's cheaper to go to the matches!) but i am currently paying £20 a month for a load of junk, i live in a poor reception area for TV so would like to keep the satellite for the normal channels BBC1,2, and ITV etc.
If i cancel my sky subscrition altogether will i still be able to receive these ? and if so do i need a new viewing card ? i seem to remember that you could get a card from the BBC a few years ago.
???
WHOOOOSHHHHHHHHH……..

You should be able to cancell Sky and still recieve the normal channels, try removing your sky card and flick through to see what you get without it before you cancel.

As long as you have subscribed to Sky for 1 year +, I think it should work just like a digibox.

I believe this has now changed, you used to be able to obtain a free to air card vai a BBC number so you could carry on using your box to get bbc,itv etc.

However with the launch of freeview boxes at around £40 - £50, this is the only way to get the channels.

  • I cancelled my sky subscription last year, and I had to phone them a few days later to get them to send me a new card in order to watch the free to air channels. I dont know if this is still the case, as i have since went to telewest for extra channels.

you will need to keep the card inserted, you will then be able to watch the "free to air" progs

We got sick of spending £20 for extremely dull programmes that are repeated to death. Our box has continued to give us all the free to air channels without any problem.
