I have a 2005 Trajet SE CRTD

So, for the past few months, 5th gear and reverse had been acting up, very hard to get it into 5th or reverse and felt very 'grindy' when going into gears. So took it to a garage and the guy passed some lubrication fluid through the cables which was supposed to help. Instead he has just bodged it up. But thats a different matter and no we will not be using him again he was recommended to us by FIL

Last night 2nd, 4th and reverse gears just went! Got it to a different garage (one we have used many times) and the gear box is leaking oil like mad. He has patched it as best as he can (garage was fully booked he only looked at it as a favour to us), booked it in for Thursday to be looked at properly and get a quote.

It needs clips fixed, a new meter on the air intake thingy (it hasn't been dropping revs but just hasn't been achieving revs, at first I thought it was a brake that has been sticking on but worked out it was more when I was struggling to get the car above 20mph in third gear going up a very slight hill) And of course the brake that has been sticking on. And a tyre because I've rubbed it against the kerb too often and its bald on the outer edge plus it's now got a nail stuck in it, which is handy that it's the tyre needing changed and not a different tyre.

I don't know if I should get it fixed (will cost a bomb too) or just sell it to that webuyanycar before the gears go again and walk away from it. I can just see more problems cropping up and tbh, I haven't ever been keen on the car. My husband bought it for himself and when I was pregnant it was better for my back to drive it than my megane, then I had a C section and couldn't drive the megane and then husband just never gave me my car back. I like the height of it, getting kids in and out is so much easier, it is comfy to drive even if it is slow as a cantankerous mule. But I also really, really hate it for being a nightmare right now.

Went to look at a cheap sceinic today but I'm still wavering on whether to forgive and fix it or chuck it out in the cold.

webuyanycar.con will give you very little for it. Get it fixed (the tyre is a wear and tear item so you would replace it sometime anyway). The car may not require any repairs for a few years if fixed properly.
As for the Scenic, expect regular repair bills.

The tyre isn't wear and tear, it's my dodgy parking and one day I will learn not to run the tyre against the kerb... and it was going to get replaced this week anyway :p

Really I'm just peeved at the gears, well the first dodgy mechanic, we took it to be fixed when we had money to pay for a big bill, got a small bill and thought woohoo! That will take the credit card down a bit! Sods law eh?

Think I will just get it repaired properly then sell it privately and look for something else.
  • Slow boat to China........

Buy it back as bean-tins, another Hyundai off the roads.... Result.

Seriously, I'd consider just selling it spares or repairs, I feel a new gearbox coming, and they don't come cheap on these **ahem** wonderful Pacific Rim vehicles.

Looked into it (well our mechanic did) and it is coming out as almost a grand just for the parts it will need and thats from a breakers.

So, we went and looked at the scenic, agreed to buy but conveniently forgot my purse so no deposit but nice man got the ok from his boss and thats fine... whatever just keep it for us) and the tragic trajet is off to WBAC tomorrow. Hopefully we will get near what the say we should. Either way we're spending out money but I'd rather spend it on a new car than fix one that I hate and have a bad feeling about.

    Bye bye trajet.
