Laptops with good battery life

Hi there, hope someone can help as I've been reading reviews on the internet for hours and going mad!

I'm looking for a laptop, nothing fancy - I only need it for Microsoft Office and web browsing. I need to write reports etc on it though, so need at least a 13-14" screen (i.e. netbooks are no good).

The biggest problem I'm having is finding something in my price range (around the £300 mark) that has a good battery life - at least 4 hours.

Every search I do just seems to churn out netbook after netbook!

I'm happy to get a refurbished laptop provided it comes from a trustworthy source and meets my battery life needs.

Any help/recommendations very gratefully received!

Thanks,

BB

You've got no chance for £300. £300 gets you poverty spec and around 2.5hrs. For 4+hrs you're looking at least at mid-spec and business class and double the money you've got to spend.

    However....
On Ebay, £200 or so will buy you a Dell Latitude D630 which is a Core2Duo laptop. With a decent capacity battery, you'll get over 4hrs - the ones I sell are still managing over 3hrs with the original batteries. £40 should get you a 5700mAh battery for one of these.
  • Hi there

I don't know whether you've come across the Acer Timeline series during your internet searches. I bought one of these ACER Timeline 5810TZ back in January after months of research and price watching - my priority like your's was battery life without being a netbook. Anyway after 9 months of mixed use... watching films... surfing the net... general messing around I can honestly say this machine is brilliant! Easily does 5-5.5 hours of continuous film watching so I'm sure it would do its advertised 8 hours of something a little less power hungry easily!

It is a little above your price range but it's worth keeping an eye open as I picked mine up for just £340 from a seller on ebay - brand new and sealed in box. I think the seller was called techfurb if I remember correctly.
