Amending holiday date

I recently started pricing my holiday for next year. Thomson web site showed only 3 rooms available on the dates I wanted. I rang to book 2 of the rooms plus flights and was told the travel agent was busy and would ring me back. When I did manage to speak to them later the same day I was told the rooms had gone. I decided to book rooms only for the following day but held back on the flights as they were much more expensive. Within a few days the rooms were available again on the original date. I rang to ask whether I could change the date and was told it would cost me £35 per person even if I added flights to my booking hence giving them an additional £2000 of business. I have now decided to wait until Easyjet flights are released as I begrudge paying this extra charge. Is it the norm that you have to pay this extra charge even when your holiday price is increasing not decreasing?

Sometimes it depends on who you speak to, ring them again, hope you get a different person if they say theres a charge then tell them you'll leave it for now and that you'll book the flights with easyjet, they may decide to waive the charge and book the thomson flights for you.
