Investing 10K

Hello,

We have 10k in an ISA but considering paying someone to invest it for us and hopefully get a better return than the 3.5% it recieves in the ISA.

We are completely new to investing. We are wondering if anyone can recommend a good investment company and if anyone could tell us how risky such an investment would be and what potential loss or reward there could be.

I'm assuming that you are planning to invest this money for several years, because if not, it might be better to leave it in cash. Even then, you might be best leaving a proportion of it where it is for emergencies if you don't have any other savings to fall back on.

If you are looking for investment advice, the main thing is not to go to a high street bank. You can search for a local independent financial advisor here, which is probably the best way forward if you don't really know what you're doing. In terms of risk and potential returns, the investments chosen can be tailored to your own preferences and could vary from almost as safe as cash to highly speculative. The potential returns/losses will tend to be proportional to the amount of risk you are willing to take.
