multi fuel stove in conservatory ?

I have tried searching for the answer to this but haven't quite managed to find it so apologies if it is out there somewhere.
We have been thinking about how to heat our conservatory which is 5m x 3.5m. At the moment we have a couple of electric heaters which are expensive to run so while considering alternatives, someone suggested a multifuel stove. I have tried to do as much research as possible but have managed to end up more confused than when I started. My main concern at the moment is about the installation although I have looked at a couple of stoves.
So, after a few days on the internet I went to a local stove retailer/installer and they said that they can just cut a hole through the polycarbonate roof, put the flue through and use fireproof board around it. Does anyone know if that is the right way to do it ?
What kw output would be needed considering there is a lot of glass ? There are only two dwarf walls and no outside wall.
One other possibility is to put a stove in the lounge where we have a proper chimney, would this heat up the conservatory at all ? it is off the lounge,
We have someone coming round on Wednesday to have a look and tell us what can be done so I would really appreciate if anyone could advise us what to ask. It has to be defra approved.
Finally, any idea of the cost of installation ?
Thank you in advance, we really don't have a clue and don't want to get it wrong.

Buying a stove can costs a lot of money when you include installation it could be over 2k then you have to consider storage of logs etc
Plus obviously some sort of shielding to not melt the roof and a chimney of some sort
Having a log burner isnt a cheap option even once installed unless you have source of cheap wood, lots are jumping the bandwagon and prices of fuel has shot up and there is only a finite amount of wood around
Far cheaper would be to extend you ch to conservatory if you have it0 -
thank you antispam. We got a quote for extending the central heating - 1500 which is what we were considering at first but were slightly put off when researching it that it would not provide enough heat. Also would make quite a mess going from the boiler in the loft and through bathroom ceiling. I think we are just trying to look at all the options before deciding and each one will have advantages and disadvantages.0

We have just installed an 8kw mulitfuel stove in our conservatory (12' x 18' open plan nto 12' x 12' kitchen). This was a cheaper alternative than knocking the conservatory down and buiding and extension. It was just a giant porch/fridge/dumping ground previous years but hopefully this year we can use it as the dining/living space it is during the summer.
We had an 'expert' round who wanted to charge us £4400 before we even chose a stove. Done lots of digging and decided to go for the Firefox 8 as even being a cheap stove it was still going to be an expensive mistake if it didn't heat the room. We had it installed by our chimney sweeps company and so far, no problems. We are burning mainly smokeless fuel with the odd log thrown on and it. Stove will tick along nicely for 6 hours shut down and re lights easily
I know they're not cheap to run unless you have free wood but £2000 for the stove and installation is still cheaper and less hassle than £20,000 for an extension.
The weather hasn't been really cold yet and I've not had the stove running above minimum output yet so fingers crossed.
On the price of coal I find it much cheaper from a proper merchant -£15 for 50 kg as opposed to £10 for 25kg of the pre packed stuff from garages and some internet retailers.0 -
Having had a stove in my last house and knowing the massive amount of heat they can generate, I wouldn't put one near a UPVC conservatory, The only exeption would for a small low powered one to use more for effect that as a primary source of heat.
If your lounge opens directly onto the conservatory (ie no door), then I would look at having one put in the lounge. In our last house we hardly ever bothered putting the central heating on when the stove was burning, simply opened up the door to upstairs and it heated the whole house through.

Mine doesn't heat the whole house very much and its a 7Kw one I have it on now it takes the chill off upstairs but I wouldn't have one in a conservatory due to immense heat the give off the heat doesn't disperse that very well, that why you can get stove fans0
