Cologne by train

Has anyone done this and would they recommend it over flying? As I'm in London I was thinking of going via Brussels. Or any ideas on other places via Eurostar for a weekend excluding France or Bruges.

    Lots of train info https://www.seat61.com

Apparently the connection at Brussels is fairly straight forward.
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.
  • Funnily enough I'm thinking of doing the same trip in a couple of weeks as I always fancied trying out Eurostar and don't want to just go to Brussels. The trains from Brussels to Cologne seem cheap (19 euros each way I think if you book in advance)

Eurostar to Brussels, but then you have 2 choices - Deutsche Bahn or Talys to Koeln. Deutsche Bahn give good service for booking by phone - go to https://www.bahn.de, select UK and Ireland, there is a phone no. UK based call centre, German staff with excellent English

  • Thanks all. Annoyingly the timetable changes the Sunday I wanted to come back with Deutsche Bahn (12 December) so tickets can only be booked until 11 December. I called to find out when they would be available for the 12th and I was told not until November! Not sure if I should risk waiting to get a cheap return or try to find a flight back (but then if I'm looking for a flight I'm thinking I should go somewhere else!)
