You're right, soon we won't be allowed to pull a plug out in case we touch the pins as we do it.

Health and safety has gone mad.

Thats what the insulation around the pins is for. :D

Not really. It is just that some people are frightened of their own shadows. It is understandable, DVardy has no idea where I am or what I am up to most of the time.

Why why why, do people on here tell you to get an electrician for something so simple. Next you will be telling the poster to get an electrician to take a plug out of a socket.

...because the OP doesn't sound as tho' he knows what he's doing, is unclear about how the thing is wired up at the moment, and either in this thread or the other that he raised on the topic, freely confesses to colour-blindness and apparently can't tell one wire from the other.....

Faced with this, some posters here fear that he's a danger to himself.

Normally I'm of the give it a shot camp but as the OP cant tell which wire is which I'd have to say leave it alone and get someone else to do it. Shouldn't cost much to swap over a security light provided the wiring itself is ok.

  • A few years ago a mechanic at work brought in an extension lead he had changed the plug on.

His washing machine would not work on this extension lead and he wanted me to check it.

On opening the plug I found that he had wired the earth wire to the live terminal and the live wire to earth.

So when he tried it the whole frame of the machine would have been live!

Some people do need an electrician for something simple.
