Will it effect my friends benefits

I returned in June from living abroad for two years and haven't claimed any benefits.
I thought I would have a job by now but unfortunately this has not worked out. And all my savings have now dried up.
So on Monday I have decided I am going to have to do it I know from not living in the country for two years i will not be able to claim full benefits but my real question is....
I am living with a friend who claims benefits/family tax credits and want to know by claiming against his address will it effect his benefits good or bad as I am not going to be here forever.
He earns 17,500 a year he has one daughter living at home but attends university and another in 6th form college.
He can't survive on what he gets in benefits now so i don't want to put his benefits in jeopardy.
Any advice?

If he claims any means tested benefits, these are usually calculated on household income, so yes, they could well be affected.
Have you actually tried to claim any benefit say from the year 2007/2008 -2008/2009, I know these are the years that benefits are calculated on, worth a try.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

No not tried to claim anything I was just told by someone at the job centre that because I haven't paid any income tax for two years and that's what they base it on then I wouldn't be able to claim full job seekers.0

It really depends on when the last full year NI you paid. Did they ask you for the definition of '2 years'make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
