Has anyone else tried to grow to grow these from saved seed. Got about 15 growing fast but not yet flowered. They won't be the same as the parent but may well be a useful moneysaving ploy. The seeds germinate quite easily at about 15deg C. It'll be interesting to see what comes out.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

Surfinia/million bells You're right, they won't be the same, the only way to grow them is from cuttings, which should cope with the winter if they are in a warm conservatory or glasshouse.

I know that cuttings are the only way of getting same plants, this is just a fun experiment to see what the results are. It may be useful for some who can't get cuttings at this time of year as the main plant will have become tired and the stems overripe. I was curious to see how many make good plants and what colours come out.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Just thought you might like to see the results. Saving surfinia seed is definitely worth it if you don't mind random colours.

I used to take early cuttings of Surfinia in a heated sand bed, but never tried seed.
People should experiment more with their own seed. I have some super echinaceas as a result of messing around with named varieties, and dahlias give even quicker results.:)0
