Halifax Bank Charges Grrrrr!!!

Morning everyone!

Ii just had to tell everyone how ANNOYED I was this morning upon recieving a letter on internet banking advising me a standing order that went out on the 28th wasnt paid as I had 'insufficent' funds in the account. I wouldnt mind but I actually get paid on the 28th of every month, and when Ii called up to tell this to the women, she put me on hold for 5 mins then told me they were well within their rights to charge me £39.00 for the privilidge!!! So that has now got me off my backside and I am now waiting here at work for lunch so I can send my bank charges letter for the last 6 years, to them on recorded delivery today.

God im fuming, this happened last month but the man Ii spoke to took the charges off as he saw Ii had been paid, then told me the date of the standing order had been changed to the 29th of every month. What have i got to do, im doing everything in my power to sort myself out then this happens ARRRRRHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Has anyone had any luck with reclaiming their bank charges back form Halifax?

CarliJ

  • I don't think annoying is a strong enough word for it. Yes, I claimed and got charges from Halifax. From start to finish took me about 7 weeks to get my money. Do it! It will make you feel loads better (and you will a bit of extra money in the process)

my bank (lyods tsb ) did the same to me-i set up a dd specifacally staing i get paid on the 30th take it out on the 30th OR 1st, "no problem!" 28th of august my bank is overdrawn, when i ring them to aks why they say dd for c/c gone out- "no no no" i say it goes out on the 1st, "if you look on your stament it say's 28th" says bank lady it actaully says 28 th or after so i (being niave) thought this meant it would go out AFTER. so another £30 charge for me as i quote "it's your fault miss ****"
sorry im so bitter today! sick of being shouted at by customers at work! lol

I'm sorry to sound unsympathetic, but I don't understand why ANY of you run your accounts almost down to £0?????

Keep a float of a few hundred in there and never ever touch it.

So your telling me that you have never been in that situation? you have never got to the point where trying to save money, even if its £10.00 left in the bank gets gobbled up by something that needed to be paid or brought eg like FOOD?

im sorry if i sound harsh but dont judge us before you know all the facts. i dont get paid very much per month and i try and pay my bills on time. Its not my fault if the bank has cocked up twice now is it? im glad you have a spare £100-£200 left for your bank account, but some of us dont.

It's easy to assume/wish that others should behave as you do TS_ALY. However, the reality is that many people - despite our 'modern age'- continue to live hand to mouth. You would certainly, judging on your opinion, be very surprised to know that there's a whole bunch of folk out there that are not only pretty poor financially, they don't even have a bank account.

Saving, or even having, a cushion of two hundred pounds or so for some is nigh on unachievable.

Don't believe the propaganda that we (all) live in a wealthy society. We don't.

The banks are entirely justified to charge you.

Yes, they are. And people realise that. But when the real cost of an automatic penalty is around £1 and they charge £20 upwards, this is when people have problems, which is why the OFT are investigating at the moment. Banks have been overcharging customers for years, and they know it. Which is why they won't reveal their real penalty charge costs and are paying back everyone's charges rather than stand in court and admit they have been overcharging.

Sorry but I am judging the facts, and that is that you cannot manage your money or anticipate what might happen. How likely is it that a company may take a payment early? Quite likely and not unknown isnt it?

Instead of buying a new television or hifi, or maybe a new pair of shoes, build up your float.

Apologies that this gets your back up, but are you really telling me that you're living on baked beans and lentils, never go out, and haven't deviated from that since graduating?

The banks are entirely justified to charge you. And with this knowledge, you build up a float so that they can NEVER charge you.

I'm really sorry that you take exception to someone pointing out the screaming obvious.

If you think I buy new things like TVs or hifis or even new shoes(I have big feet I have to wear size 10s big for a girl huh!) you are sadly mistaken. Im not going to argue with you I cant be bothered. You are entitled to your opnion, and I have my reality to live through. I wish you all the luck in the world and hope you enjoy your back up float you have. Yes I have made a few mistakes I admit that, but I am slowly getting there.

  • I had this problem with Halifax! I had not paid the full amount by 20p and they wanted to charge me £25/30, I said I no for the sake of 20p your joking! So they refunded the charges. Halifax charge way to much compared to other banks! Ring and complain say the bank is responsiable they should sort you out then!!

I really don't want to be horrible but just want to explain wehy mine goes down to £0:o
Every month i have £9 left for "treats" everything else goes out as bills, rent, c/c etc (i know very stupid but still trying to pay off c/c and store cards from when i was 18!)
When the bank decide to charge me that means i either miss a bill and have to pay double next time or go £21 which means ANOTHER £30 charge. = a vicious circle.:wall:
Where should i get this few £100 from?
I have 2 kids already work all the hours god sends, do quidco etc etc and that just say keeps me right.
I would LOVE to have a few hundred to spare but in my situation this is NEVER EVER gonna happen unless i win the lottery! lol
