Very confused and need advice

I took out an unsecured personal loan with the Alliance and Leicester in 2006 (£15k) and all was fine until I lost my job last year, I explained my situation to the bank and they allowed me to make token payment. Fine.
Earlier this year A&L were taken over by Santander and soon after I was informed that the debt had been sold to Moorcroft DCA. After reading the posts on this forum I asked Moorcroft to provide me with a copy of my credit agreement and sent a cheque for £1. For 6 weeks I heard nothing until finally Moorcroft refunded my £1 and told me they were no longer dealing with this account and to refer to the original lender.
Yesterday I received a letter from Santander telling me my account was in arrears and to contact them to discuss missed payments. The final paragraph states that as long as I continue to be behind on my payments I will be notified every six months.
Any advice would begratefulyl received.

The problem with taking over debts with a takeover is that paperwork can go astray and often lost forever.
I had a credit card with Northern Rock which got sold to Co-Operative Bank who sold the debt onto to a debt collection company - they couldnt find the paperwork so wrote the debt off (£7k).
Did you keep all the paperwork from Moorcroft? Send Santander a letter stating that you have asked Moorcroft for a copy of the CCA hence it has been returned back and until they provide a signed copy then you will not pay anything towards the debt.
This is where they try to grind you down so keep all paperwork. They will send to another DCA who will send you the pay up or else letter - you then send them a copy of the moorcroft letter saying they will return it. The new company will return back to Santander who will farm it out again. Might go on for 3 attempts. They are doing nothing wrong as the debt still exists but they know they cant enforce it in court.
The last stage is when they finally get hacked off and sell the debt on. Again letter saying no way Jose , then, finally...... they will write the debt off as a bad apple. :rotfl:
