Work focus interview

Hi my father is disabled, he has parkinsons, diabetes amongst other things and he is on dla and icb.

He has been asked to attend a work focus interview at the job centre. What I would like to know is that it is quite obvious from my father's ill health and progressive disability that he is not able to work so what is the point of asking him to attend this interview?

What level of DLA does he receive? The interview is to see if there are any options open to him, there is no compulsion to take action as a result of it but depending on how advanced his Parkinsons is, he may find something suitable.

A prime example of why people should be discouraged from asking for benefit advice on that board! ;)

  • Thanks dmg24.

It just seems that every little thing stresses him out these days and he is on so much medication it has so many side effects.

He is on the higher rate of dla as his parkinsons has progressed significantly and my mum is his full time carer.......

If he receives HRC DLA he is exempt from the WFI. If you give them a call and let them know he is on HRC they will cancel it. The Disability Advisors tend to be lovely, they'll sort it for you.

  • Hi

It seems that you are not exempt from attending wfi even if you are on higher rate dla.

I still dont understand the criteria but know that its best to check with your advisor, as even someone at the job centre gave me conflicting information.
  • Hiya Lion-King, my friend attended one of these interviews a month ago, she has numerous health probs too. She was told by her personal adviser that anyone who is on incapacity benefit has a follow up interview after 3 years. I think this is just to see if there has been an improvement in health. I doubt your dad will have anything to worry about.

Is he on ESA or IB??

If ESA, he will have to attend unless he has already had his medical & hs been placed in the 'Support Group'.

If IB, he will only be exempt if he gets High rate CARE DLA (not Mobility) - if he does receive High Rate care, contact the JC & tell them that he IS exempt from attending. The rules state that if he is 'PCA Exempt' or in receipt of High Rate Care DLA, he does not have to attend a mandatory appt at the JC.

    Hope this helps....
Oops!! Should I have posted this??? Some users don't think I shouldn't be offering advice due to my occupation!!!
