Hello,
iam usually very competent with pc's but this problem is doing my nut in lol
I decided that i would upgrade my monitor to a 32" hd tv, and run the pc into it, so i went out and got a hd graphics card that would do the job.
I purchased a budget card, ATI HD4670 with built in 7.1 audio.
well, i have no sound from the graphics card what so ever.
I have tried the ATI audio drivers, i have tried the realtek ati hd drivers, no sound.
i don't even have a speaker in the task bar, when i go to the device manager its set to run through the ati audio, but no sound.
I go into the sound properties in the control pannel, it says no sound device is present.
If i turn the on-board sound back on in the bios and run 3.5 jack to 2 phono into the back of the tv i get sound, be it low and bad quality none the less its still sound, turn it off in the bios and iam back to square one...
what do i do ? it cant be the cable as i get nothing in the task bar...
iam at a loss and need some help !! lol

Till someone else comes along to help, I'll have a go, it can be a minefield of :
- BIOS / O/S drivers
- incompatibility output / input settings twixt PC / TV etc
Give a clue on your O/S, but .. .. .. if its Linux I'm not interested !
Which ATI HD4670 ?
Did you connect the SPdif out cable from MOBO to the input pins on the HD4670 ?Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. xp pro, no idea about SPdif cables, none came with the card.
the card was a radeon HD 4670 purchased from Novatech.
mobo is Foxconn G31-MVk
iam running a DVI to HDMI cable, i have tried both DVI sockets on the g-card and both HDMI sockets on the TV, nothing.
*edited, noticed that the ATI card has an internal realtek chip and doesnt require SPdif.:j:beer: :j0 -
The card was't a radeon HD 4670 from whoever. It has a brand name so I can find the *.pdf [ book of words ]
- in short your MOBO should have a thing called SPdif out
- your graphics card should have a SPfif in
- you stick a wire usually supplied by the graphics card manufacture between them
- your sound is then changed to 7.1 and directed to your HDMi out on the back of the graphics card
- the HDMI out on the back of the graphics card goes to the TV HDMi in
NOTE graphics cards do not naturally deal with sound, you have to make them !Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. this is from my order history at Novatech:
NOV-46701 NOVATECH HD4670 1GB PCI-E
its a XFX card after looking in the tower, sorry lol:j:beer: :j0 -
Sorry M8, got company - I'll get back to you later.
Had a quick look on the Nova, no info, I'll get the reference board info but there's no guarantee that the AMD reference has been ' stuck to ', it tends to be only the biggies like Sapphire that stick with full specs.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. right,
first thing are you using a ATI radeon dvi to hdmi dongle y/n
if no
there is very few dvi to hdmi leads that work with ati card and if your using a generic dvi to hdmi dongle you will not get any sound out of most ,you might be lucky and get one
thier not wired up for ati cards most of the time, for sound
they look like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/ATI-DVI-HDMI-dongle-Black/dp/B000V96ULI
with out it you will not get sound out the card
they come in two colours gray and black but you need the right one for your card,or you did when i look at it a few years ago for the same resson,
gpus used to come with them but its only top end stuff that has them now ,i think,
you should see a ATI high definition audio device ,in device manager and in the sound panel in windows ,
might be ATI DP output on some
and you get the drivers from ati driver site ,as they come with the gpu drivers now
the ati radeon DVI HDMI dongle is the key to the sound on any ATI HD Radeon card
or google ati dvi hdmi dongle for what i have said for a better understandingthere or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff0 -
iam not running it with a dongle, iam using a generic dvi to hdmi cable.
your right, i will have to source an ATI dongle to get it to work, not sure why i didn't think of that.
Novatech have removed that card from there website now.
thanks for the help
** edited , now purchased an ATI Radeon DVI-D to HDMI dongle from ebay for £6.99 :-) hopefully that will do the job:j:beer: :j0
