Private Parking Ticket

Hello all, newbie here! I'll try to keep this as brief as possible!

I'd just like a bit of advice/reassurance on a ticket I've just received.

I live in a block of flats which has a private car park at the back. Every car has its our own parking permit. I looked out of my window yesterday to see a bright yellow parking notice from a private company on the windscreen with a charge of £100 (reduced to £75 if paid within 14 days) for not displaying my permit.

I was a bit shocked, admittedly my permit was not on the dashboard, but there is a slight opening underneath where I put it everytime I drive it - typically, this was the only time I forgot to put it back on the dashboard! You can still see the permit from outside of the car when it is here (these permits are very vibrant!). If the parking attendant had walked around my car he/she would have seen it from either side. I don't think it would have been visable from the front, but as my car was parked up in front of a wall, there was no way that the attendant could have viewed the dashboard from the front.

I've decided at the moment not to give them any contact or to appeal, but is this the best thing to do? I'm a student (trying my best to get a job at the moment!) and there's no way I can afford £75 - £100!

I'd be very appreciative of any advice. Thanks :)

  • It is a scam. Do not contact them, and ignore all correspondence.
Read the many threads on here about private parking companies and you will understand how the scam works.
If you ignore them they will eventually give up.
  • Thank you for your reply. I forgot to mention one thing which I just want to clarify. The company "Passenger Transport Solutions UK Ltd" is a member of the BPA, does this give them any more right?

The BPA has no official standing. It's not like Ofcom or Ofgem, it's just a trade association for parking companies.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

Thank you! I have had a good look through other threads but I just wanted some reassurance on my individual case.

    Thanks all!
