£10 charge to cancel an automated home insurance policy

Hi All,

I called Aviva today to cancel my home insurance (better deals out there if you look, as you all know!) When I call the bloke on the phone said there was a £10 charge to cancel it.

I signed up over a year ago, and they have automatically started me on another 12 month contract, yet I haven't signed to this?!

Is there anything anybody can advise me on?

Thank you

They told you what would happen on your renewal quote. I know because I have mine here.

You needed to tell them you weren't renewing BEFORE the policy automatically renewed.

They can charge up to £50 cancellation fee so £10 is getting off somewhat lightly really.

It's very lilely you did sign up to an automatic renewal.
As well as it being in the initial documentation, you should have got a renewal letter about 3-4 weeks beforehand.
These are about 1 side of A4 with "what to do next" as a clear title normally in bold.

You need to diarise insurances and look into them before they renew.
  • Hi guys thanks for that,

I didn't get a reminder letter, so that's why nothing got done about it, but your probably correct in the initial sign up letter but I will have to have a read of thatone!

    Thanks for your help
