Supermarket parking ticket

Hi. I have been parking at my local supermarket for years, occasionally going over the three hours allowed with no ticket being administered. Then I got a letter from them saying that on two separate occasions I had overstayed the three hours and if I did it again, I would be fined. However, before I received this letter I had unwittingly done it again. The fine arrived the day after I received the warning letter. If I pay within a set period the fine is reduced from £70 to £40. The fine invoice came from a private company and not the supermarket. Do I have to pay?

Comments

  • Absolutely not. Ignore all correspondence. Do not contact, pay, acknowledge or reply in any way. There will be a set of about 5 threatening letters and then they give up. Take a look at the start of the forums, https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2214803 and scroll down until you find the parking company of your choice and see what to expect. All these letters have come to drivers and all were totally ignored.

Utter cobblers. It might have been your car but they don't know who parked it.
Never heard of a PPC sending out letters in advance of the scam before, which bunch of muppets is it?

    As others have said, ignore.

It might have been from the supermarket in question, and not the scammers themselves, which probably means an employee of the supermarket gives the tickets out?

Still ignore them completely as the ticket is not enforceable!

They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

Ignore the letters, but do send a lovely letter to the manager of the supermarket saying that they have now lost your custom, and try and get your friends to do the same.

Although don't do that if that is the only supermarket local to you.
  • Thank you all. The supermarket in question was Tesco and the request for payment came from a private parking company.

Could you tell us which company this was? We like to name and shame on this forum.

I'm guessing Euro Car Parks, that's who I ignored last year. Very tame, nothing to worry about.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
