Internet Explorer new tab hijacked

Hi

When I click on 'New Tab' in Internet Exploer, is comes up trying to log on to this website:

http://gg.blogpear.com/vscript/newTB.psc?&ub=_|0U0I0DzutDtDtC0EtB0AtA0EtByDyByCtN0P1C0S1Czu0V0D0C0VtN0C0H0Nzu0S0R0C0Hzx0N1P2W0T0BtN0B0N0Dzu0S0I0MtN0C0Dzu0A0F0TtN0L0N0Tzu1C1P1BzxtEtE1L1P1O1C1T1H1PtF1Q1I1ItE2Z1T1S1B2W1P1I1R1F1H1PtF1M2Z1H|_&cr=1069161389

I've tried going into internet options > tabs > settings > the new tab page, but it doesn't work. How can I make it show the new tab page and get rid of this thing?
I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?

Download Malwarebytes (latest version near top right page green arrow).

    http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/

Once downloaded open Malwarebytes and update it first before running a scan.

Tick any nasties Malwarebytes may find and let Malwarebytes remove them.

Post the log file in your next message.

    Do the following:
    1. run regedit from start menu
    2. go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Microsoft -> Internet Explorer -> AboutURLs
    3. on the right-hand side you'll find the "Tabs" parameter, right-click and select "Modify"
    4. if you have this problem, the value of this paramater probably is "http://gg.blogpear.com/vscript/newTB...&cr=1069161389/" this needs to be changed to the Internet explorer default of "res://ieframe.dll/tabswelcome.htm"
    5. Close Internet Explorer and open again
  • Spot on, dogmaryxx. Thank you. I don't know how it got there - I've got Norton and everything!

  • Hi dogmaryxx,
I had this problem and your solution worked great, many thanks.

I use AVG Anti-Virus and it managed to get past that.
I'm also very cautious about links and messages I open, so I'm a bit surprised this got passed me.

Does anyone know how this infection occurs?
