Is it possible to replace a Freeview tuner in a 1080p 22" LCD TV with a Freeview HD Tuner?
If not why not?
If so what would be the likely costs?
I hear smaller screen Freeview HD Tv's will not be around for while. It is not so much the HD but that ordinary broadcasts on the Freeview HD channels are broadcast in 1080i and you get a better picture.

No only with an external hardware like the new Humax boxes and others0

It's simply not possible - the tuner is a chip that is part of the mainboard inside the TV. If it was implemented through firmware, or as a plug-in module, you could replace it with a HD tuner.
So the only way you will get HD is by buying a HD set top boxOf course, I may just be talking b****cks!0 -
There was a stack of freeview HD tuners in our local Tescos the other week promising HD etc, trouble is our area won't switch over till the middle of next year, of course there was nothing on the display to tell you this. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

I would recommend buying a FREEVIEWHD TV even if you have not yet switched over in your area. You will be future proofing your TV purchase. Tesco currently doing a 32" Sony Freeview HD Tv for £399.
I have purchased a FREEVIEWHD set top box and in the menu is a button to click on notices.
The notice states that on 1st January 2013 I might have to retune the box. This does fall into line with the whole country switching to Digital by the end of 2012. Any one with more info on this?
The freeview HD picture is excellent and worth the money.
Also when will Freeview HD be available as standard in smaller screen TV's? Any one know?0
