why does refund on paypal take 7 days

paid someone on the 25th and they returned my payment because i paid them using another service, they have started the refund, but when you click on details it still show spending, and also mentioned that it can take upto 7 days.

why is this, thought it would be instant?

I am not sure as all my refunds have always went though as instant. Could it be that there is not enough cleared funds in the paypal account for an instant refund ? You would have to give more details to check.

Usually PayPal refunds are instant. However, in this case it is likely that the seller did not have enough funds in their PayPal account and it was therefore funded by a transfer from their bank account.

paypal to bank account takes 8 days becasue they keep the money for the 7 days in theirs to gain intrest, as direct transfer from your paypal account to bank only takes seconds!

OP are you say that you paid by by 'another service' - does this mean something other than Paypal?

If the user does not have enought funds in their account when they process the refund, they will have to add funds to their account from their bank account. this can take upwards of 10 days.
