Accident Advice Helpline

I was in quite a serious car crash last week (not my fault) and opted to use the legal cover provided with my car insurance.
Nearly a week after the crash I got a call from the Accident Advice Helpline who were extremely pushy in trying to get me to use them instead. They also said that the accident was my fault (which it wasn't as the police who attended the crash can confirm) when I set them straight they said that they had not said that. They made me feel very uncomfortable and upset. Someone else has told me of a similar experience that they had with another company. I am considering complaining about them as I do not feel that it is right that they should be allowed to use 'bully boy' tactics to get customers - especially those who are vulnerable and wondered if anyone else had had similar problems with them or other companies.
Any feedback on similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

  • Claim farmers, they are everywhere I'm afraid. There are some very good legal cover/accident management companies but unfortunatley there are plenty more bad ones.

You were right to stand your ground. Firms that are actively hi-jacking claims for their own benefit is one of the main reasons premiums are increasing. These firms make money out of hire cars, credit repair and personal injury. Some of them delibratley slow claims down so they can invoice the insurers for big big hire costs.

I'm not sure by them contacting you that they have done anything wrong. They were afterall acting in the interest of the third party. I would however explain what has happend to your insurer. At least that way the insurer can use the information to inform the industry of their conduct.
