Hi wonder if anyone could help me out with a return question
I bought a DVD player from LIDL 18mths ago It says on the box 3 years warrenty.
It has developed a fault in that it wont play discs properly it jumps and wont play
I took it back to the store and the manager just fobbed me off saying as it was older than a year i should contact the manufacturer. I tried this but they are in germany and I got no response.
What do i do now? It say a 3 year warrenty but LIDL seem to be washing there hands of it. I tried to email LIDL and again no response
thanks

The big problem with buying any electricals from Lidl is that you often have to deal with companies in mainland Europe when there is a problem. Your warranty is with the manufacturer, that is who you need to contact. Should be details in the manual or paperwork that came with itWe have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0

I had a problem with a DVD player from Lidl, just called their UK helpline given in the instruction manual They only needed a short letter describing the fault and copy of receipt, sent a new replacement by return. Excellent service.
Assuming the make is Silvercrest (seems to be Lidl prefered brand) DES Ltd. 0870 787 6177 e-mail support.uk@kompernass.com0 -
Just out of curiosity, have you tried running a cleaner through the player? What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

Who is the manf ?
my lidl pc monitor went faulty just under 3 years so i contacted the manf via the website(in germany) and they replied saying yes thats fine(obviously after being sent a copy of the receipt and asking me troubleshooting questions), we will send a replacement to you and the courier will take the faulty 1 away,
maybe it depends on the manf, my pc manf is targa and im guessing the dvd manf is silvercrest0 -
The OP should talk to Trading Standards. Warranties etc. can only be in addition to consumer's statutory rights, not in place of them. Under the Sale of Goods act, products are expected to last a reasonable time, with "reasonable" depending on the product, the price paid etc. I believe that a DVD player is expected to last longer than 18 months, and hence the LIDL store it was bought from is in breach of contract, and is liable to make good the situation. And they can't fob the consumer off, telling him/her to deal with the manufacturer. The local Trading Standards office should be able to advise.0

I've had 2 items, kettle and radio/cd player, both nearly 3 years old, replaced under Lidl 3 year guarantee using UK address from instruction manual. Did everything by email, sent scanned receipt, new versions received, no problems. The kettle finally expired, but the radio/cd player is still going strong and used every day.0

I will try contacting trading standards see how I get on
thanks for all the replies0 -
The problem with going via a Lidl store is the fact that the items are usually only on sale for a limited period. The chances that your Lidl store will have a replacement there is highly unlikely, and therefore going via the manufacturer, who is the one offering the warranty, not Lidl, will get you further than approaching the store. You have nothing to lose going to the manufacturer, check the handbook or look online for a UK address or agent, and send them an email. An email will only take a few minutes to send, and if you get the same response I did, your replacement should be with you in just a few days. Hold off on TS until you've tried the manufacturer, if you don;t get satisfaction, then try TS.0

If you bought the product from Lidl, then your contract is with Lidl, not the manufacturer.
Don't let them fob you off or tell you otherwise.0
