The problem with having the treatment in Italy is the convalesence and her ability - or probable lack of it - to travel after the op. I'm not too worried about the planned conversion of the downstairs rooms - will do most of it myself - but don't think I can get it done in time.
I'll follow up on the habitually resident info, very useful.
Would it not be possible for MIL to have the operation in Italy and for one of the family to go over to help her over there with convalesence and for her to come back over to the UK once she is better able to travel? It would also give you more time to get a good builder get the accommodation sorted out.0 -
Again, thanks to all. Very difficult for us to care for her in Italy as my wife is disabled and I have work commitments. I can fit the odd day and the weekends into projects! Anyway, she seems to have decided to stay on her own in Italy, so the pressure is off.0
