What to do now!

Firstly my O/H and i are one of those dreaded LHA tenants, we had our own business up until recently when i became severely disabled. My O/H had to leave work almost over night to care for me. We have many unpaid debts due to the closure of our business, which are slowly being paid off,so our credit score will be one of the worst as my O/H narrowly avoided bankruptcy.
We rent our present home, and have done so for 6 years, in fact our LA has taken photographs inside our home for their letting brochure, so its always being kept in A1 condition. He has assured us of a 1st class reference.
We have seen a property we love and were completly honest with the LA, the LL is happy to take us knowing we will fail the credit check as long as we have a good ref from our present LL.
The LA has asked for a guarantor, but thier income needed to be 36 x monthly rent. I replied via email we couldn't do anywhere near this,as MIL is retired living in a rented house herself although she is 100% ok on a credit check. LA said don't worry it doesn't matter.
we then paid £250.00 for our credit search which even on the form said it was £15.00 + VAT. LA said MIL didn't need to be refereced (strange i thought) This was 3 weeks ago. not heard anything except that the LA "forgot" to post the reference forms for a week, then told me they had posted them but didn't do so for another 2 days (thats if they have).
I have spoken to the LA again yesterday who said there is nothing to worry about its purely a formality and regardless of what the references say the property is ours and they are not allowing further viewings. She also added Rentsheild (the referencing company) are very busy hence the hold up.
So what now, i don't want to moan because we aren't exactly the sort of tenants everyone wants. I think we are being lead along but not sure what to do now. Sorry for the long ramble.confused.gif

  • Patience is a virtue. All you can do is wait.
Nothing to be ashamed about claiming LHA no doubt when you were working you were paying your taxes.

Most people only get annoyed at those who claim the benefit (and others) as a lifestyle choice rather than finding work. Reasonable people accept the benefits system is necessary for people when they fall on hard times.
