Should you get taxed on SSP?

My girlfriend is currently off work and is receiving statutory sick pay of £79 per week. Should she be getting taxed off this?
She was supposed to receive £79 SSP today as well as a £80 tax rebait, yet her employer has only paid her £104 and claims the rest has gone towards Tax and NI.
Does this sound right?
