eBay Delivery Rate Tables?

Has anyone used the new delivery rate tables feature yet?
When it was announced I assumed it would be something that you could apply to individual listings, but I've tried to set it up today and I can only input set figures to apply to all listings which doesn't help us at all as the things we send via courier can vary anywhere between a hub and a gearbox (say 8kg to 50kg).
I was really hoping this would solve the problem of people underpaying postage too, despite everything being clearly stated in our listings

It's customers in the Highlands/offshore addresses who are underpaying. We offer both prices and explain it all in the listing (say £10 UK mainland exc. Highlands, and £35 for Highlands and offshore adds) but 9 times out of 10 they haven't read through it and they choose the wrong option.
This is why I was hoping the tables would help, I thought it would be something to set up on individual listings.0 -
As someone who lives in the highlands that's s huge price difference. I have never had to pay an extra £25 to get any item here (be it ebay or anything else). Personally if I saw that price difference I would avoid any seller with that much mark up.
Most people who live in these areas under stand than Non Royal mail couriers mainly charge more for these area's (though quite a few don't) but normally at most it's a £10 difference.
As far as I understood the new postage system you could add separate prices for geographical areas. Not had to do it so couldn't tell you how0 -
That's honestly not us overcharging either, that price includes £1 for packaging on top of the couriers charge to us! We're waiting for some prices to be sent through to us from another company.
What we usually do is offer a RM service for the Highlands/offshore, but even then it's around £4-5 more but people still tend to pay the lowest cost.
The table allows you to enter set prices for Highlands, IOW, IOM etc but it's either a set price for all items to those areas or a set surcharge for all items. There is an option which goes by weight, but it would take an age to figure all of that out at the moment.
Come to think of it, eBay don't state which areas are classed as 'Highlands' so I wonder if it would even tally up with what our courier states?0 -
In the interest of good customer relations is it practical for you to post items for the Highlands and Islands in person at a post office via Parcelforce - and not on an account? If you do this there is no surcharge at all for these locations - and you could possibly get more repeat custom from these buyers.0
