Pocket DAB radios

Could someone explain why the quality of the DAB signal on my portable DAB radio is better than my pocket DAB radio?

Despite being in a good/strong DAB reception area the signal on my pocket radio is somewhat intermittent and drops out if I move around unlike that of my portable radio.

Is it to do with the electronics of both radios?

Could well be as you suggest, more likely that the pocket DAB uses the headphone cable as its aerial, which coupled with DAB being transmitted on a higher frequency than FM makes it more directional and subject to drop outs.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
