Saved around £200 today as follows:

Partner ran out of fuel and her car started playing up, running rough as though it was running on 3 cylinders. Took it to a garage who diagnosed (cost £35) one of the coils had gone, they offered to replace all 4 for £270. Running out of fuel was a red-herring, the coil going was just a coincidence.

I did some research, thanks to the Cars section of these forums, and managed to fix it myself.

Cost to me, £20 for the coil, £17 for a Haynes manual and another £10 for some tools as my normal spanner set wouldn't get into the tiny space Renault left for amateurs like myself.

I wont count this though as my partner would have had to pay for it but thought I'd share the story. I was quite wary about doing this job but it really was dead simple.

    Nicely done!
We have fast learned that garages when you include labour etc can be very costly for what can be a simple enough job. DH has taught himself all manner of repairs from brakes to replacing a head gasket!! (Thank you haynes!). He always gets a friend who is a mechanic to look the car over (free) when he has done it if its a new job he hasn't done before (we have 1.5 kids so frugal is great but we have to be sure of safety!) and it has saved us thousands over the past few years.

    Hi all,

I utterly just give up (again) this month cos I've not tried very hard and I knew I was going to struggle this month as we've been busy decorating and I've not had much time to concentrate on making any extra money.

I'm still going to follow the thread obviously and start trying to get some things lined up for November so I don't fail the challenge miserably for the 11th month this year :o

    Good luck all, sweet x

Just requested another £25 amazon voucher, but that's likely to arrive next month now. I have some mystery shopping payments received but I haven't had chance to sort out whats profit yet.
