I have just undergone a knee operation and have been off work for 5 weeks already, and have just been told i could be off for up to another 5 weeks
I currently get Working Tax Credits to help with my income but now with me only getting SSP im wondering whether to phone them and ask them if i can get anymore due to my drastic decline in income
If i cant get extra tax credits does anyone know of anything else i can apply for as i am really struggling with just ssp.
Thanks

Hi , when my husband was out of work sick a few years ago , i telephoned tax credits and explained the situation to them . They asked for an estimate of what i expected our yearly income to be and so i gave them the figure and they recalculated my weekly payments . Our payments then increased .
Once my Husband returned to work i telephoned tax credits again and gave them another estimate of our yearly earnings and our weekly payments went back down to the amount they had originally been .
In saying this , my Husband was on sick leave from work for SIX MONTHS so doing this was beneficial to our family....if the sickness leave was only short term i just dont know if it would be worth while.0
