Gorgeous Shoes without a 4 inch heel?

As we hurtle towards party season I wanted to pick your brains about shoes.
I went out last weekend wearing a pair of my ye old faithful 4 inch shoes. I was crippled by the end of the night. It wasn't as hard when I was working in an office and wearing similar height shoes all day but now I am at home chasing round kids all day I don't wear stuff like that and my feet can't cope on my rare nights out.
So have been thinking that perhaps I need to embrace the notion of a lower heel and wondered where you could recommend nice shoe shops/internet sites. Whenever I've looked in Clarks it's like I am shopping for my mum/granny
and likewise New Look, despite being fab shoes for excellent money they are nearly all 4 inches.
Where have you found goreous shoes with a smaller heel for nights out on the town, that don't cost the earth and that I can save my pennies for before Christmas party season?

Have you tried wedges? super comfy at any height, on the small heel note I would try TK Maxx if you fancy designer and can be bothered to hunt, oh and I agree about Clarks, dd bought some nice heels that are about 2 inches high from H&M but I wouldnt say they were dressy, I also liked some of the shoes in River Island but I dont like their prices and although they are not to my taste Irregular Choice do a lot of different heights http://www.irregularchoice.com/?stop=true happy shopping:)Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0

Kitten heels are the best option if you don't want the pain on a night out. They still give you the look of a dressy night but are comfortable. The only problem is that higher heels are usually more popular. If you look on River Island's website. They have some lower heels in but I would get them soon because the higher shoes will replace them. They have a nice pair with a bow on the front that I was thinking about getting for myself.0

Personally, I would grin and bear it and perservere with the heels when on a dressed-up night out.
Make the distinction between your "mum" self and your "party" self! I now hear so many slightly older women wistfully saying, I used to wear heels like that but I couldn't wear them now! I think once you stop wearing them completely, it feels impossible to go back.
I love wearing heels when I go out. I feel slimmer, legs obviously look longer and I carry myself differently, it feels more fun and dressed-up. Platforms can help balance things out a bit, I think.
Next do have kitten heels marked out as a "Key Trend" this autumn/winter so should be some selection there and New Look have these which are a medium heel but quite on-trend.

If you would wear ballerinas for going out, Next have loads of metallic ones and jewelled ones for £25

Well since I like to spend the majority of the time dancing
grinning and bearing it just ain't possible as it ruins the evening for me.
I wasn't looking to go quite as low as a kitten heel but fancied more 2-3 inches, I can cope with those LOL!
I agree with how high heels make you feel but it's ruining my night outs now and since I am not going to get back into the practise of wearing heels during the day it is going to be impossible to go back to wearing them
Thanks for the link - that's the sort of thing I was looking for but they don't have a size 8 for my big plates of meat

No I haven't but wedges tend to make my legs look thicker so I don't tend to bother

Dr Martens do a range of heels which are relatively low. They're chunky as well so give you the comfort of wedges. The TUK range are good for the same reason but they are marketed at alternative people so may not be your cup of tea.
I disagree with the idea of grinning and bearing it personally. I used to wear heels all the time but then I moved to an area where the streets are a lot more difficult to walk on. I now find it agonising, and even though I continued to try to wear heels a few times it ruined the night having to cling on to my understandably unsympathetic boyfriend, and I still have a scar on my foot since the last time I wore heels in July.
I'm now a firm lover of flats. There are plenty of going out and formal flats out there, your feet will thank you for it and you will look much better than the women who stumble in their 4 inch heels at the end of the night and have to walk home bare foot

Go Bronnie:TI love that:DI so agree, I grinned and beared it last night but was soooo glad to be back in my Uggs today;)Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0 -
Haha, I think I'm steering into the opposite way of thinking, I've recently found flat shoes really uncomfortable to walk in.. I think this must be from spending so long wearing heels every day.. I totally agree with Bronnie that they make you feel a certain way, more sophisticated maybe? I'd always wear high heels on a night out..To be fair, today's office heels are 6inch stilettos

:rotfl: ha that was me on my previous nights out (although not the stumbling part I might add
) I even walked across Birmingham city centre in barefoot in winter as I couldn't stand to wear my shoes any longer
Bronnie - those shoes are lovely but again look more like 4 inches....<sigh>I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife
