Online/Instore Price

I'm a bit annoyed, at myself mainly, as I'm usually so careful when buying expensive things, to get the best deal etc.

Anyways, I bought a tv from currys believing I'd got a good deal, until I had a look at their website...

In store there's a promotion saying that it's got £200 off it's previous price, on the website, it not only does it not state this, but it's also £30 cheaper than instore!

The TV has already been set up, so I can't send it back. If I'd only gone through the website and done a collect/reserve I would've got the tv £30 cheaper. I did speak to a sales person before I bought the tv and at no point did he mention this.

Is there any way I can dispute the price of the TV? or is a live and learn situation. I've got to go back in there anyway today, as I'm taking back the overpriced HD cable they sold me with the tv (decided I have no need for it).

Thanks
TSB: £4900
Virgin: £4700

live and learn situation i'm afraid.

The website's stock will be different from the shop (despite a collect and reserve), if you had reserved it, the website's stock would of been dispatched to replace the TV you had collected from the shops stock!

As for the HD cable.. there's no difference between any HDMI cables..apart from price tags. Good reference as to to why! http://lifehacker.com/5506219/why-you-should-never-pay-more-than-10-for-hdmi-cables

Edit: you can get cheap, quality cables on amazon

:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!
  • Main reason I'm taking back the hd cable, is I don't even have an HD set top box, I just said that I might be getting on in the future. Can't believe I'm being led by sales talk as I get older lol.

Thanks for the TV info, it's generally what I thought, but when paying £349.99 for a tv, £30 less would've been nice :)

You have no legal rights in this situation. You chose to buy the TV at that price.

To be fair, the SA may not have known about the price change. Think how many products they have and how quickly prices online can change. There's no way one person could keep track of all of them.

If you don't think you need an HDMI cable, I hope you're not thinking of connecting any DVD players or external boxes to the tv by scart, because they'll look really poor.

But you can always get an HDMI cable for £5 or so... it doesn't really matter with those.

Argh this was posted before I'd typed my reply. D'oh.

And if you get a Humax hd receiver, they come with HDMI cables anyway.
  • Surprising update :D

I went into Currys to take the HD cable back, in passing mentioned the cheaper online TV price, and he said ok how about you keeping the cable, and I'll refund the £30 difference on the TV, so I was quite happy with that :D

As you lot have said, they didn't have to do it as there is no policy to say they have to. So well done Currys, you made my day :D

  • To be brutally honest, even if the sales assistant did know that the item is cheaper online, it's hardly in his interest to tell you, is it? His priority is his own pocket, not yours.
