Re-cycling PC Parts

Hi there,
My mother's 6 year old HP PC went 'bang' the other night. It seems as dead as a dodo and I've advised her that it's probably easier and cheaper to buy a new one than pay for a repair given the advances in spec/reduction in cost over this period.

She's happy to do this and has asked me to dispose of the old one. I was going to take it somewhere for re-cycling but I just wondered whether any one could help with advice about cannibalising the PC and using parts assuming they work of course.

The hard disk for example. Is it easy to remove and use as an external HDD or something? Anything else that I could make any use of?

Thanks
Wizzer

yes the hard disk is easy to remove, and can be used in a usb caddy, usually unplug two connectors, and possibly a screw or two.

If the PC is completely dead, it may be the power supply, you can get new ones for a few quid from https://www.ebuyer.com, they just screw and plug in.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
