I have an RBS key account which is the same account, from their Scottish owners. I've never had a problem with it and like the UK based phone banking. I opened mine online, but can't say which method is quickest.
  • How long did i take to open if you dont mind me asking. Just the quicker i can open i the better

If you can I would do it in branch. My experience with opening it on-line was frustrating.
  • I opened one online and it was a pretty smooth process. Can't recall the exact timescale as it was a couple of months ago, confirmation was quick. It said online it was all good, sent a form to sign. I'd say two weeks for the card and pin is about right.

This seemed to be the only basic account which accepted online applications. There may be one or two others but tried this one and was pleasently surprised. I think it even pays interest at the princely sum of .10% lol

It gave a debit card and has online banking. I just have to decide now whether to stick with it out of principle as a family member had somewhat of a problem with Natwest. Crippling charges when not working, which apparently, is totally ok. If the charges were as they are now the damage would've been minimal.

This is partly why I've chosen them, in the highly unliekly event I do make a mistake the charges are pretty low.
