Landlord annoying me!

I know its their house, but I only want to remove a giant spikey shrub/palm thing from the garden and they wont let me! this thing is huge! It cuts off half the garden path so that you cant walk on it without getting stabbed in the eye and no matter how much i cut it back it grows even more. I have planted so many shrubs and flowers in the garden, really looked after it, and I think, have really improved their garden. Their reason for not wanting to remove it, is because they think "its a nice feature" well maybe for them as they dont have to live with the monster!
Does anyone have any ideas how I can word an email asking them to think again? Or is that just the way it is and I have to live with it?
Thanks for any replies!

So the landlord is annoying you by not letting you destroy his property (plant)? This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0

At the end of the tenancy, you need to return the property in the same state as at the start (less wear and tear).
Unless you can get the LL to re-consider and give you permission in writing, then you need to return the property with the spiky horror!
That doesn't mean, of course, you have to live with it there in the meantime! Would it survive if dug up and put in a large pot? You could then return it at the end!
Or how much would it cost to buy a replacement of similar size when you leave?0 -

Good idea thank you! It might be a bit large to replant it into a pot, but could maybe move it to another spot, so not to wreck their interesting feature

I'd look into what it needs, buy a large decorative pot and pot it into that if it'll survive the move - perhaps worth offering that as an alternative that might suit for both of you? He gets to keep his feature, you get to keep your eyes.
Otherwise - his house really, you could put some net around it or something to tone down its more lunatic tendencies I guess?Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0
