Atm ive budgeted £40 (max) for my initial shop (so thats cleaning products and cupboard fillers like spices and salt and that..) and then each week after that should cost no more than £15
I have a list and i think im ready! lol just wanted to know if this is a normal amount
I hate being new to things.

I budget £100 a month, but I like my food0

It depends - it was anything from £13 a week to £25. That did include shampoo, washing up liquid and things like washing up sponges, cling film and tin foil. (stupidly, I bought some at the start of the year, misplaced it, got some more and then found it

I allow myself £20 a week, it covers all my food shopping (breakfast, packed lunches, dinner, and snacks), as well as leaving me a little extra for the ocassional bottle of wine or chocolate etc
Some weeks worked out more expensive (anytime around major deadlines or exams, in my experience), and some cheaper - try to plan to have a little extra in the bank, just in case, and sooner or later you'll find out what works for you*2016 - the year of the savings account!*

My son is thinking he will do well on £25 per week for food. We're doing a big shop for him at Makro before we head up to the uni - and will stock up on items such as rice, herbs and spices, toilet paper (24 rolls £8.99 - and then buy one get one free!), cleaning stuff and bathroom/grooming products etc. He likes his food, and he likes good food. I know alot of his friends are talking about £10-15 per week for food - but they seem happy to live on pot noodles and uncle Ben's rice. We're doing a couple of days next week of 'cooking' days - showing him how with a couple of packs of mince meat he can get a spaghetti, a lasagne, a chilli, tacos etc., and going to have a 'cook for a week in a day' session.0

oh gosh only £40 initial shop? this year it cost me and my housemate near £200 together. (god bless tesco vouchers!!) now its costing us i'd say £20 a week, something like that0
-
yeah forgot to say, initial shop like £1000

£20 to £30 per week depending on how much non perishable or frozen etc. has been stocked up.
Last few weeks have stocked up some items by spending £40+ @ Tesco to use £4 to £6 voucher off so therefore won't need to spend so much in the near future.0 -
Hi Guys, I have just finished my MA so am only a student for two more weeks :-(
The best resource I found was http://www.cheap-family-recipes.org.uk/ using this I could cook really healthy food cheaply and it allowed me to save some money for yummy treats like steak and things.

I think it really does depend on who you are and the kind of food you enjoy as well as the people you are living with.
Personally I would hold off getting things like cleaning products - chances are others will have them and either won't use them at all or will be happy to share.
FWIW I probably spent around £25 a week but I am a fruit maniac so half of that was my weekly trip to the market!0
