Santander refund offer letter took 3 weeks to arrive

After 2 years of efforts, Santander unexpectedly offerred to refund £9k out of £10k of PPI charges. However, their offer letter requiring acceptance <28 days from the date of their letter, only arrived after 21 days from the date of the letter.

Does anyone know if this 3-week gap between the date of letter and its delivery is normal bank practice or am I just unlucky ?

Does that not mean that you still have a week to claim,? how is that unlucky?

    Hi there

    Well done on your success.

Did it arrive in the post late perhaps?

  • I changed my email address and missed these replies. Everything from Santander seems to arrive 2 weeks after the letters are dated and I wonder if the letters are dictated by staff in the UK but typed and / or posted overseas.

The reason why I was a bit concerned about the one week "acceptance or lapse" deadline is that the issues were much more complicated than I explained, the issues spanned 6 years and one needed a masters in rocket science to calculate whether the offer was calculated correctly / fairly. And I am a retired bank worker.

Anway the cash was warmly recived by yours truly but the whole process of getting letters 2-4 weeks after they are dated seems a bit odd.

Some of the letters go through an extensive checking system before being sent. Checkers checking the administrators, checkers checking the checkers. LOL, your letter may have been in that pile. They are worked in the UK, Milton Keynes in fact as the letterhead will state.

But why fret over little stuff like that. you got your money.
  • Good point and yes I am pleased to have got some money back.
  • Yes the same thing happened to my son - but he telephoned Santander and told them their letter took 14 days to arrive and asked them to record this on their system ........ Unfortunately the company who was handling his refund wanted their 25% cut PDQ .... urging my son to settle. I told him not to!
