Bathroom upgrade - Quote

At present I have an upstairs separate WC and bathroom which has a built in shower and sink. I would like to have the wall knocked through to make one larger bathroom with one door blocked up and made good. I would like the room to be fitted with a new bathroom suite, a new power shower, plus tiling through out. I would also guess plastering of the ceiling and new lights fitted too.

I have arranged for a couple of builders/plumbers to come over in the next few days to give a quote for the job. Can anyone give me an idea of how much I should expect this job to cost? I’m happy to take the existing tiles off and clear what ever rubbish I can away.

Location: Surrey

Many thanks

  • You should try Myhammer.com - you list the job and then workmen bid to get the job.

I've used the service and couldnt fault it. All workmen are rated by people who have used them.
  • Ive had a couple of quote through - £3,350 (from MyHammer) and £4,100 (independent) for the new bathroom, but I was also advised to get a new boiler, as mine is very old. So had quotes for that too - £2,300 & 2,500 for a new combi boiler

As a bathroom designer and installer, a bit of advice if I may.

1 - First, it is VITAL you meet everyone who quotes. Second, there are three methods of choosing your installers. A - the pocket. B - the head C - the heart. We can rationalise (B) review costs (A) but only C will not let you down...

2 - Ensure that each person quoting quotes on a like for like basis including down to details such as isolation of taps type and make of kit etc etc.

Much kit is now shipped in by manufacturers and retailers that LOOKS fantasic but is both poorly performing and, even worse, one can get zero support for. So in three years time when you need a part (and you will) you'll have to replace rather than maintain. Buy recognisable names such as Roca etc and stay away from the discount sheds. Unfortunately there is no such thing as a bargain. There is ONE exception to this rule abnd that is if you are staying in teh house no longer than 12 mths. Then it's caveat emptor...

Make sure that you receive a fully detailed quote NOT estimate. That then tells you what you are going to get and lets the installer know what he has to deliver. That way there is no arguing later over I thought I was getting so and so...

Just my two penneth based on over 2000 bathrooms...
